ART3MIS Longrun MVR™ evaporator at Empresas Carozzi

CFT installs its first ART3MIS Longrun MVR™ evaporator at Empresas Carozzi

In the competitive landscape of food processing industry, trust and collaboration between companies are crucial elements to foster innovation and tackle market challenges.

A relevant example of this dynamic is the long and fruitful relationship between CFT and Empresas Carozzi, a highly trusted producer and exporter of tomato and fruit concentrates from Chile that is among the largest tomato processors in the southern hemisphere and the world’s leading producer of continental fruit purees. Such a partnership stands out not only for its longevity and solidity but also for the ability of both companies to pioneer highly innovative solutions.

Empresas Carozzi has recently shown admirable foresight by enthusiastically installing a new and revolutionary evaporator, the ART3MIS Longrun MVR™, designed and built by CFT, in its Parma based facility. This patent-pending technology represents a cornerstone in energy efficient evaporation, elevating the whole project as an example of trust and collaboration overcoming difficulties and fears. The path taken by CFT and Empresas Carozzi illustrates how, in a climate of mutual trust, companies can dare more, experiment, and ultimately, safely step into the uncharted territory of efficiency and quality never achieved before for a long-lasting competitive advantage.

A long-time partnership that led to ART3MIS Longrun MVR™: CFT & Empresas Carozzi

The partnership between CFT and Empresas Carozzi, which began in the late 1980s, has been a dynamic journey of growth and innovation in the food processing industry. Over the years, this collaboration has seen the installation of numerous advanced processing technologies, which have been integral to Carozzi’s growth and market adaptability.

In the early stages, Carozzi’s facilities were equipped with CFT’s first evaporators and Olimpic sterilizers, setting the foundation for a robust production line. As Carozzi’s operations expanded, so did their reliance on CFT’s technological advancements. The 1990s brought the Venus evaporators, which marked a significant leap forward in processing capabilities, allowing Carozzi to meet the demand of an expanding market.

For the Chilean company, the 2000s marked the introduction of Eldorado Longrun models for enzyme inactivation and the strategic shift towards high-efficiency evaporators utilizing MVR technology.

The merger of Rossi & Catelli and Manzini into the CFT group reflected a new era of innovation, with Carozzi promptly adopting the newly available flash cooling technology.

The following years saw Carozzi incorporated CFT Giubileo finisher into their process, a decision that highlighted Carozzi’s increasing trust in CFT and its technology.

The success in tomato processing paved the way for the introduction of the Zenith Chrono fruit puree processing lines, further diversifying Carozzi’s product offerings and processing methods. This was complemented by a significant automation upgrade in 2018, which streamlined operations, reduced labor and simplified management.

This partnership demonstrates how mutual trust and a forward-thinking approach can lead to lasting success and leadership in the food processing industry. The solid foundations of this collaboration have enabled continuous technological advancements, keeping both companies at the forefront.

ART3MIS Longrun MVR™: the state of the art in tomato concentration

In March 2023, to further boost tomato processing capacity and reduce energy consumption, Carozzi decided to invest in a mid-density ART3MIS Longrun 60-MVR™ evaporator to be positioned between the Apollo 40 pre-evaporator and the Venus T1500 triple effect finishing evaporator.

CFT ART3MIS Longrun MVR™ represents a giant leap forward in tomato processing, offering unparalleled energy efficiency at mid-concentration. With its advanced MVR technology and unique descending circulation design, the ART3MIS Longrun MVR™ elevates product concentration from 8.5 brix to an impressive 14-16 brix, achieving over 80% of the total water removal.

This not only breaks the current state-of-the-art concentration barriers but also ensures improved product quality through superior heat transfer and reduced residence time.

Operating continuously throughout the entire tomato season, for up to 90 days, based on the product’s brix level, CFT’s latest evaporator sets a new standard for efficiency and quality in tomato processing, ready to meet the industry’s growing demand.

Designed for viscous HB tomato products, the ART3MIS Longrun MVR™ operates with virtually zero steam consumption, relying primarily on electrical energy use. This translates into significant energy cost savings as well as in remarkable reduction of CO2 emissions, thus avoiding carbon tax implications.

Counting on results beyond all expectations from the first ART3MIS Longrun MVR™ installation, all tomato processors can now look with great confidence at future challenges on electrification, energy savings and working cost reduction.
